My name is Dana Moore. I am a very proud mother of three sons (Jonathan - 27, Zachary - 22 and Levi -15) and grandmother of a 3yr old grandson (Jayden) and a 2yr old granddaughter (Jaycee). This will be my 30th year teaching 1st grade at Moffett School. I’ve seen lots of changes. My 1st year teaching here we had 75 students Kindergarten thru eighth grade until this year at almost 400. I am very compassionate and caring for my students. I provide my students with an ample amount of support in a nurturing manner. Students at this age are still very fragile in their ways and thinking and need substantial amounts of support while at the same time needing to be taught discipline and responsibility. This a very important time in a child’s learning and development and I fully understand the importance of giving the students a secure and solid foundation to build up for future grades. I implement sensory-based technology with the Smart Board for reading, writing, math, and phonics on a daily basis. I also ensure that each student gets ample amounts of time in our reading area. I spend ample amounts of time with my students and feel as though I become a second mother (or grandmother to most of them! As a mom and grandmother this is a natural feeling for the students as well as for me. I still feel like I have a lot to offer the students that come through my classroom and constantly research new teaching methods and techniques to keep up with the ever changing dimension that is today’s modern student. This comes from a strong passion of wanting my students to have the best opportunity in the future as possible. The most important thing that I want my students to leave my class with is knowing that they were loved!
